Equipment:

  • Class set of pinnies.
  • Class set of dodge balls (or another type of soft, “throwable” item).
  • A playground or marked safe zone.
  • A Popsicle stick with the name of each kid on its own stick (make sure to have a couple of extra sticks as well for those that go missing during the game).
  • A class list of all of the participating kids names’.

Description:

  • The object of the game is to be the last assassin left by “taking out” all of the other players.
  • Using the class list, number all of the kids (so if there are 10 kids playing then they will be numbered, randomly, from 1 to 10).
  • The way the game works, is 1 will be chasing 2, 2 will be chasing 3, 3 will be chasing 4…etc. with 10 chasing 1.
  • Each kid will get a dodge ball, and the Popsicle stick with the name of the person that they will be chasing.
  • The game is played in a loop, meaning that each time a kid gets eliminated, he gives the stick of the person he was chasing to the kid who just eliminated him. To this end, KIDS CAN’T TRADE STICKS WITH OTHER KIDS as it will mess up the loop. If everyone hangs on to the stick you give them, then at the end of the game there will only be 2 kids left, and they will have each other’s stick.
  • The easiest way to start the game is to pull the Popsicle sticks out one by one.
  • When you pull a kid’s stick, find their name on the list. Then, call out the name of the kid who is supposed to be chasing the kid who’s Popsicle stick you are holding, and give it to him and allow him to take a dodge ball and take off. The easiest way to do this, is when you pick a kid’s Popsicle stick (say he is number 4 on the list), immediately try to find number 3 and call that kid up to give him the Popsicle stick.
  • You are only allowed to “kill” the person whose name you have.
  • To be “killed” you must be hit with a dodge ball below the shoulders.
  • Once you are “killed,” you immediately give the Popsicle stick with the name of the person who you were chasing to the person who just “killed” you. This is your new target.
  • Once you are “killed,” you run and put your dodge ball away, put on a pinnie, and serve as a bodyguard/lookout for the person who just “killed” you. If the person you are protecting is “killed,” then you becoming the new assassin’s protector.
  • Bodyguards can’t touch anyone or carry a dodge ball, they can merely look out for their assassin.
  • The playground is the safe zone. Any assassin can stay on the playground for 60 seconds. After this time elapses, the person must do a full loop of the playing area (usually the school), before being permitted to return to the playground.
  • The game is over when there is only one player left (usually doesn’t happen), but I usually call the game when there are 3 or 4 people left, and declare them the winners.
  • Re-number the kids on the list and play again, so that all of a sudden everyone is chasing someone new!
